Submission Rules

  1. Submit only high resolution JPEGs, no other file format is accepted. JPEGs should be 8-bits and saved as Adobe RGB.
  2. Images should be at least 8 inches by 10 inches at 300 dpi. Larger is acceptable, smaller isn’t.
  3. Save your JPEGs using quality setting 11 or 12 in Photoshop. If you use a different image editing software save at the highest available quality setting.
  4. If you have only slides in your files and no access to a scanner you can still submit images to PhotoSourceGROUP. We offer a scanning service for this very purpose. Contact Mike Karlsson at mike@photosource.com for more details.

Digital Capture Images

Camera: The minimum requirements are that the camera you use is of DSLR type and have a minimum of a 6 Megapixel sensor. Some examples of cameras that are acceptable are Canon 10D, Canon 20D, Canon 300D, Canon 5D, Canon 1Ds Mark I and II, Canon 1D Mark II, Nikon D50, Nikon D70, Nikon D100, Nikon D200, Nikon D2X, Fuji S2 and S3.
Point and shoot style cameras are not acceptable no matter the number of megapixels. The reason for this is that the sensors in p&s style cameras are so small that the megapixel-count becomes irrelevant for most professional applications.
Camera settings: Shoot using RAW, NEF or equivalent.

CAUTION: It is not ideal if you set your camera to capture JPEGs. The camera will typically apply sharpening and other settings to the images. For most publishers, this is not ideal.

Color Space
High resolution images that are uploaded to your PhotoSourceGROUP store should be saved in Adobe RGB.

File Format
High resolution images that are uploaded to your PhotoSourceGROUP store must be saved as 8-bit JPEG on quality setting 11 or 12 in Photoshop, at highest available quality setting if you use a different image editing software. We recommend that you save your digital originals as tiffs, psd or another lossless format to preserve your files.

Rules on preparing your digital images for submission

  1. The most important tip is to shoot in RAW (Nef in Nikons). If you shoot in any other setting, your camera will apply various settings to the images such as sharpening, color saturation, white balance etc. These settings are best handled by the publisher/printer.
  2. Never sharpen your images. Just don’t do it unless it’s a copy of an original file and you’re preparing that copy for making a print. Professional publishers/printers will expect unsharpened files that they can sharpen according to their particular specifications.
  3. Pay attention to detail. Examine your images at 100% magnification prior to submitting them. Make sure that problems such as dust, spots, hairs, scratches etc are removed prior to submitting.

Getting Started

Step 1
a.) Go to: http://[ your I.D.] photosourcegroup.com

b.) After you login, use your "Admin Menu" drop down located at the top of the
page (this is where you will find all the tools needed to maintain your store).

c). In the Admin Menu go to "Add Contact Information.” Add the appropriate
information so buyers can contact you if they need to.

d.) Note that all images you upload should be high resolution JPEGs saved as
8-bits in Adobe RGB. Save at quality setting 11 or 12 in Photoshop. If you
use a different image editing software save at the highest available quality
setting. For specs on high resolution files for PhotoSourceGroup see the
Technical Q & A at the end of this e-mail.

Step 2
a.) Click back to "Home." You'll see a "Royalty Free" category on your screen.
This will be where you place all of your sub categories for RF photos, e.g.
Nature, Aviation, etc. All categories and photos outside of the RF category
section are "Rights Managed." So if you create any categories at the top level,
they as well as any subcategories, will be RM. Any images uploaded to the RF
category and any subcategories of RF are priced as RF.  The category RF can't be
removed. If you don't want to offer RF, don't upload any images to this category.

b.) Decide on the categories your submissions fall into. Go to "Add New Categories"
in your Admin Menu. It is permitted to have categories with the same name in both
RF and RM. You can also have as many subcategories,  e.g. Nature, Aviation, etc. as
you need to organize your site.

Step 3
a.) To upload photos, select Upload Photos in the Admin Menu. Select the category
you wish to upload your images to and click "Upload Photos.” A security notice will
come up. Click "Yes" or "Always.”  A Notice will then remind you that only jpegs or
tiffs are permitted. You can either drag your files to the middle of the "applet"
or select the Browse button, then fill in File Name with location of your images.
In some browsers, dragging and dropping of a file is not supported.

Step 4
a.) Add your keywords (up to 50 words) by clicking the link "Needs Keywords" or
"Modify Keywords.”  If an image displays "Needs Keywords" this indicates that
there are no keywords associated with that image and it is not registered with
PhotoSourceBank. These links only show up when you are logged in as an administrator and
are not shown to the buyer.  Use any phrase or text you think a photobuyer might
use to locate a picture on Google (or the PhotoSourceBANK).

Images can be uploaded through the site. If you do not have a broadband internet connection and want to submit images on CDs/DVDs, mail your submission to:

Attn: Kim Reed
Reed Photo-Imaging
888 Federal Boulevard
Denver, CO 80204

There is a small administration fee for submitting images this way, $9.00 per CD/DVD. For details on how to submit payment please contact Kim Reed at kimr@reedphoto.com Note: The $9.00 fee is an addition to your initial Quality Control fee mentioned in the sign-up page.
